Ever had a difficult time finding that perfect, sentimental gift for a loved one? Found yourself grabbing played out flowers and pre-written cards for anniversaries, birthdays, holidays or special occasions? Always at odds with yourself as to how to tell that certain someone exactly how you feel?
Enter ?The Expressionary,? the brainchild of Bill Mehserle and Michael Flanigan, which will allow individuals to express themselves to those closest to them like never before. The website launched in beta Nov. 23, 2011. The Expressionary is a customizable, physical product to help individuals define their emotions for others.
?Think of this product as the ?Expressive Dictionary,?? says Mehserle, president of parent company, Expressionary, LLC. ?Most people can easily think of two-to-four words that best describe someone closest to them, but they struggle for the deeper expressions that truly signify that person and their relationship. The Expressionary will eliminate that struggle.?
Using the proprietary word recommendation engine, KHARIS, users will easily find words for his or her own personal Expressionary.
?By pairing KHARIS with The Expressionary, never again will a boyfriend have trouble expressing himself to his girlfriend. Never again will a daughter have trouble expressing her admiration for her parents. The possibilities are endless,? says Mehserle. ?We hope our word algorithm will forge new depths to existing relationships by simply allowing individuals to put words behind already existing emotions.?
But Mehserle and his partner, Flanigan, aren?t just out for company profit. In addition to their primary focus of assisting those in expressing themselves to their loved ones, the duo is committed to using the influence and wealth gained through commerce to provide monetary aid to those serving the less fortunate.
?When we founded Expressionary, we had a simple goal: to enable people to express themselves ? all while simultaneously using expression as an avenue to impact the lives of those who need it most,? says Flanigan. ?We strive to provide a comprehensive list of charities for each Expressionist to choose from that will truly help the disenfranchised and hurting.?
Expressionary has begun to partner with charities in hopes that it can use its exposure to bring notice to certain causes. For every product sold, Expressionary, LLC will donate a minimum of 10 percent to one of its partner charities. Each purchaser will be able to select which of the company?s partner non-profits to which his or her contribution will go.
?Initially, our charity partnerships are primarily located in the Atlanta area due to our base of operations,? says Flanigan. ?As we grow, however, we plan to offer charity options based on geographic location of our buyers.?
Charities currently supported by Expressionary, LLC are Bert?s Big Adventure; Big Brother and Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta; The Children?s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation; CURE International ; Kick It, and W&FSC.
?We want to do our part in helping to save the world by turning selfishness into selflessness. We want to make gift giving popular. And, we want people to realize that a gift that gives a portion of themselves is a gift with the most significance,? says Flanigan.
About Expressionary, LLC
Expressionary, LLC ? a subsidiary of M&W, LLC ? was founded in September 2011 by William L. Mehserle, Jr. and Michael J. Flanigan, both recent graduates of Georgia Tech. Their decision to form their own company came after the realization that they could assist those in need more so by pursing their own venture rather than working for a large corporation. The company?s website, http://www.theExpressionary.com launched in beta Nov. 23, 2011.
The Expressionary concept was initially born during Mehserle?s high school years, as he was searching for a sentimental and meaningful gift for his then girlfriend. Despite countless store and website searches, he was unable to find something to truly signify their relationship. When Mehserle realized he was trying to find a gift that defined their relationship and what it meant to him, he purchased a dictionary, printed numerous copies of his favorite photo of her and carefully pasted the photos beneath the words in the dictionary that he felt best described her and their relationship. The full backstory can be found at blog.theExpressionary.com.
After the gift was received with overwhelming emotion, he repeated the idea for his grandmother, mother and sister ? all whom met his sentimental gift with similar responses. Now with advances in technology, Mehserle and his partner, Flanigan, have partnered to take this concept to the Internet, offering individuals in similar situations a way to properly express themselves, define their relationships and give a gift that truly means something to each recipient.
