Marin?s Contemporary Art Gallery, elsewhere Gallery Features Wearable Art for December

elsewhere Gallery, one of Marin County?s distinctive contemporary art galleries, presents ?You Can Have Art and Wear It, Too,? featuring extraordinary pieces created by five local artists and launching the engravings of Jean-Marc Brugeilles, for the whole month of December. The show is part of First Fridays in Fairfax Art Walk, and opens at 6 pm on Friday, December 2, 2011, at elsewhere Gallery in downtown Fairfax.


?Anticipating the approaching holidays and festive events, elsewhere Gallery offers a fine opportunity to check out these unusual and imaginative creations from this month?s talented artists?from amazing leather and wool apparel and incredible hats, to unique jewelry and contemporary kimonos,? says Lake Hanyu of the Gallery. In addition, the show marks the first presentation of Jean-Marc Brugeilles?s engravings in the United States, following a recent two-month exhibit at elsewhere.


The show includes wearable art collections from various local artists, with opuses that range from intrepid and imaginative clothing to exquisite jewelry design. Siobhan van Winkle?s ?Outrageous Leather? features contemporary vests, toppers, and purses dexterously sewn in leather and other responsive materials. Taeko Hanyu presents her hand-sewn silk kimonos of Sogetsu inspiration, while Pamela McKinstry presents ?crazy, cozy, knitted hats? in ?Luscious Wool.? Sean Davis showcases his lapidary expertise and Jo Adell her flair for jewelry design in ?Gemstones, Pearls, and Gold,? and Naomi Kubota presents her art neckwear in ?Felt and Silk.?
