Using Facebook as a marketing tool has recently received bad press based around a survey of business owners from Intellimon, which suggests it is highly ineffective and provides little return on investment. Website promotion company, Search Influence, regularly uses Facebook ads to promote its clients? products, services and businesses, in spite of the recent bad press.
Search Influence finds Facebook ads provide a low cost per lead, leading to a high return on investment, for many customers. When asked about the secret to their success with the social media giant, Anthony Coleman, of Search Influence, states that the difference is finding businesses that fit Facebook.
The reason so many ads fail on Facebook, suggests Coleman, is the fact that the targeted demographic is not ON Facebook. ?If your business is a collection agency, there simply aren't going to be enough people with identified "likes and interests" to accurately target Facebook ads.?
Similarly, some businesses simply don't work well advertising through online social networking sites. For instance, professional services may not draw much of a following using simple Facebook sidebar ads. Other areas people tend to steer away from online advertisements are childcare, legal help and medical care. Those in these industries will likely waste their money advertising through Facebook ads.
Businesses that cater to the interests and needs of population on Facebook, however, can effectively leverage this medium, asserts Search Influence. The young professional demographic between the ages of 25 and 34 is the easiest to target through Facebook advertising, because they are using the site and have money to spend on products and services.
Coleman also cautions that the most effective ads are not just targeted to the right demographic, but they are also well crafted. ?I recently saw an advertisement that had a cross and said, ?Get high on Jesus.? Potentially offensive advertisements like this, or those that have images that do not relate to the content of the advertisement, will not work. You have to tailor the design of your Facebook ads to your audience to be as effective as possible with this advertising venue.?
So are Facebook ads effective? They are if your business fits the mold. If your business is not too professional or technical, appeals to the 25 to 34 age group and lends itself to a catchy online advertisement, then you can effectively market using the largest social networking site on the planet.
